Swapping out a video file for an upgraded version of a video on YouTube is referred to as an Inline Replacement.
The process replaces the video file without changing any metadata, including the YouTube ID/URL or View Count.
Inline replacements require:
- a minimum of 5000 views
- an improvement to the video (SD to HD upgrade, audio improvement, etc.)
Videos will not qualify for a replacement if you are requesting an editorial change, such as removing scenes or intros.
You will be asked to provide an explanation of what changes are made between the original video and the replacement version. The reason must be detailed and include time stamps.
Submit your request using the Inline Replacement Request Form: https://ops.vevo.com/inline/
Before doing so please deliver the replacement video either via feed or via your FTP sideloading folder.
How long will it take for my video to be replaced?
As of 2021, once Vevo has prepared the file for YouTube's processing, the replacement should be complete within 48-72 hours. Processing from Vevo may vary and depends on the volume of requests.
