Deleting a video in Backstage will remove the video from YouTube, and other Vevo platforms. Once a Delete has been processed on YouTube, all views and comments will be lost.
If you have deleted your video from YouTube by accident, and hope to recover the video and its data, please check out our support article on the subject linked here.
Done deleting the video? Ready to reinsert your new file, or deliver the same video to a different channel? See our Reinsert support article here.
Deleting a Video in Backstage: Step by Step
Search for the video you wish to delete using the search functionality on the video search page.
Click into the video entry opening up the video details page.
Click the three dots on the top right-hand side of the screen next to the greyed-out publish button.
This will open up the below drop-down where you should select the delete option.
You will then see the below warning message.
There are optional checkboxes at this point:
- The first checkbox is to delete the video only on Backstage, leaving the video in YouTube alone.
- The second checkbox will delete the video, and remove any trace of it in Backstage, meaning the deleted entry will no longer be visible to anyone.
- There is also an optional text box to write a note to self about the deletion (this will appear in the video's Change Log).
To continue with the normal process of deleting the video on both YouTube and VEVO, do not check any box, and click "confirm."
This will start the process of deleting the video from both YouTube and other VEVO platforms.
After a few minutes, the status of video will be officially changed to "Deleted," this means that the deletion process is complete. You'll notice that YouTube link is still visible on the video information page, this is expected behavior, and does not mean the video is still live. If you click on this link, you'll see the YouTube video has been removed and is not playable.
When a video is in the "deleted" status, it will no longer appear in video search results, unless you filter for "deleted" videos by using the video Status filter.
So what's next?
If you have no plans to re-deliver the video, leave it as is.
If you're ready to reinsert the video, please see the support article here.
