Linking YouTube Shorts to Vevo videos

There are three ways a YouTube Short may be linked to a Vevo video:

1. Automatic sound-recording association

   Shorts uploaded to an Official Artist Channel that include the same sound recording used in a Vevo video may automatically be linked to that Vevo video.

   This association is managed automatically by YouTube. There is no option for Vevo or the Official Artist Channel to manually select or change the linked Vevo video.

    

2. Edit into a Short

   Authorised users of an Official Artist Channel can use YouTube’s Edit into a Short feature on eligible Vevo videos linked to the channel.

   This allows the user to create a new Short directly from the Vevo video. YouTube will then link the Short back to the original video.

3. Add a related video

   Official Artist Channel users may also be able to add an associated Vevo video or Art Track as the related video for a Short.

   The related video appears as a clickable link beneath the channel handle in the Shorts player.

Vevo is also unable to create, change, or remove these links manually on the channel’s behalf. For any support linking shorts, please reach out to YouTube directly.

Can a channel Manager use this feature?

Yes. YouTube has rolled out Shorts linking across channel roles, including users with  Owner, Admin, or Manager access.

Can Vevo manually link a Short to a Vevo video?

No. Vevo cannot manually create or change the link within an Official Artist Channel.

Links are created through YouTube’s automatic matching systems, Edit into a Short, or the related-video tools available to the channel.

Will every Short use the recording link automatically?

No. Automatic linking is determined by YouTube and is not guaranteed.

Can the link be added through the Short’s description?

URLs included in Shorts descriptions and comments are not clickable. YouTube recommends using its related-video feature to provide a clickable link in the Shorts player.

Do we need to redeliver the Vevo video?

No. A redelivery is not required, and this feature is available retroactively.

Can I select a Vevo video or Art Track?

Vevo videos and Art Tracks associated with the Official Artist Channel may be available to select through the related-video field.

However, availability is controlled by YouTube. If the Vevo video does not appear as an option, there is currently no supported method for the channel or Vevo to manually add it.
