Are you unsure if your video is public or private? See our below support articles:
In order to make a video public or private, we must first familiarize ourselves with start dates/end dates. These can be found under the Distribution Tab of any video.
The Start/End Date menu will not be visible until the Territory policy is set. To learn about setting Territory Policies for a video, see this support article.
*All Start Times/End Times will correspond to your the Backstage user's local time zone.
**Video availability will correspond to the Territories a video is programmed to be available in. These can also be found in the distribution tab. For more on setting up available territories, see our support article here.
Important: The Visibility Dropdown will determine whether the start time/end time will be applied to the video:
The Default Visibility setting will ensure the start dates and end dates are enacted. If a video is "unlisted" - with a start date in the future, the video will not go live as scheduled, but remain unlisted. This is because unlisted videos cannot be scheduled. For more on unlisted videos - see our support article here.
The Start Date of a video will program the date and time a video is set to public on YouTube/Vevo services.
-
If the start date of a video is in the future, the video will be scheduled to go live at that specific date and time. Videos with a start date in the future will be in the unreleased status.
- When delivering a video, if the start date is set in the past, the video will go live immediately. Once a video is live on YouTube, a premiere can no longer be scheduled, so if you plan on setting up a premiere, please ensure the start date is set to a day/time in the future before publishing.
- Videos with a start date in the past will be in the active status, indicating the video is live/public on all platforms.
The End Date of a video will program the date and time a video is set to private on YouTube/Vevo services.
- Adding an end date to a video does not delete the video, it simply makes the video private, or not visible on YouTube/Vevo services.
-
A video with an end date in the past applied will display the expired status instead of the "active" status. Expired means an end date has been applied to the video, and the video is now private.
- A video with an end date in the future applied will schedule the video to be private at a specific date/time. This is helpful if your distribution deal will expire on a certain date, and you want to ensure the video is private after a certain date. The video status will remain active until the end date passes, which will move the video to the expired status.
How do I make an "Expired" video active again?
Simply remove the end date under the distribution tab! In two steps:
- Click the "x" symbol in the End Time box:
2. Click "Publish"
This update has removed the end date! The video status will return to "Active" momentarily.
